16mm film is the standard medium for microfilming documents, correspondence and records up to A3 in size.The film format is supported by all readers and is available in a reduction to minimise the amount of film necessary. Typical reductions include 24:1, 32:1, 40:1 and 50:1 with 24:1 being used mainly for correspondence and records. The higher reductions suit high speed filming of cheques and delivery dockets. Higher resolutions also allow for double sided documents to be filmed in one pass. 16mm film can be loaded onto spools or cartridges or inserted into jackets. |

35mm is the film of choice for large format documents and books. 35mm film can be used left on a roll for applications such as newspapers, mounted onto aperture cards for engineering applications or loaded in jackets with other films such as in council records. |

Filming directly to Microfiche has the advantage of being able to produce more images
per fiche than you can fit with film and jackets. COM (Computer Output to Microfiche) is the transferring of electronic print files directly to microfiche/microfilm. This is a cheap efficient way to store electronic information just as end-of-month reports and general ledgers. |

Aperture Cards or Unitized Cards are both forms of storage for 35mm
film. Documents generally are A3 to A0 plans. Aperture Cards are the medium of choice for archiving large format drawings, files and plans. Aperture cards can be punched with hollerith coding to enable indexing. This coding can be read by Aperture Card Scanners. |
Brasilian Standards govern all aspects of the production of Microfilm including Standards for Newspapers, Aperture Cards and the steps to create archival quality film. All work done by KOBY is done to the relevant Brasilian Standard.
Other standards for Defence and ANSI/NMA also exist and where relevant those standards are followed.

Computer Aided Retrieval (CAR) Systems

When using 16mm film a blip or blips can be added along with a frame reference. When this reference is cross referenced to a database and used to retrieve a document then we have a CAR system. |

Microfiche, Jackets, 16mm and 35mm Film. KOBY can also create Silver Film Duplicates from your Roll Films. Silver Duplicates are suitable for long term archival storage. |

Microfiche Jackets are an excellent way to store information. Jackets are loaded with 16/35mm film and can be read using standard Microfiche Readers. Jackets have the advantages of being updateable, convenient to use and protect the original film from handling damage. KOBY has the full range of Jackets available. |
The processing of Microfilm/Microfiche to Brasilian Standards means you must have the correct equipment, inspection equipment and procedures necessary all in place. KOBY can process your films to these standards.

KOBY can provide paper prints from Microfiche, Films and Aperture Cards to any size from A4 to A0.
Silver film duplicates are used when you need a additional original films of archival quality. The silver duplicate is made in the dark from the original film and processed in the same way as other silver halide films. You can have silver duplicates for 16mm and 35mm film, even 105 mm in some cases. Silver duplicates are commonly used when you require additional archival quality copies of newspapers or other important documents. The silver duplicate can be either positive or negative to allow it to be read as per the original.

We have storage units for Fiche, film and aperture cards in 1,3 or 6 drawer configurations. Panels, Binders and small storage units are also available. |
Vesicular Duplicates are produced using a thermal process to develop the image. Vesicular is used when the image needs to have its polarity reversed.

X-rays can be microfilmed using a special process that maintains the shades-of-grey necessary for diagnosis. |
